It does nothing for a key in a coat pocket by the door, or one that has just been put down, and it does nothing about attacks that bypass the key by reaching the vehicle network directly. The honest position is that the key improvements raised the bar and an immobiliser is still what stops the car being driven.
Mercedes CAN architecture takes a Ghost II or an S5 Deadlock cleanly, and on a G-Class there is more room to work with than on almost any other car in this list. We take factory feeds with manufacturer connector standards, use existing looms, and cut nothing, so warranty and service plans are unaffected. On AMG models with the performance seats and the lower trim, access is tighter and it is a slower job - we would rather take the extra hour than force a panel.
