How to choose, and what a job actually involves

Most people arrive here knowing roughly what they want and not which version of it. This is the short version of how we would steer you.

Security: tracker, immobiliser, or both

These do different jobs and the distinction matters. A tracker is what your insurer certifies and what recovers the car after it has gone. An immobiliser is what stops it going in the first place. If the car sits on a private drive within relay range of a hallway key hook — which describes most of Surrey and a good deal of outer London — the immobiliser is doing the harder work, and we will say so even though the tracker is the thing people came in asking about. If the car sleeps on a public bay in central London, both matter and most insurers now ask for both.

CarPlay: activation or retrofit

On a great many cars the smartphone capability is already in the head unit and switched off, which makes the job a coding activation rather than an installation — nothing added to the dash, and considerably cheaper. That applies most often to Volkswagen Group MIB2 cars, later BMW NBT EVO systems and some Mercedes NTG5.5 units. We check from your registration and VIN before quoting, and where activation is all you need we tell you that rather than selling an interface.

How a booking runs, start to finish

1. Free assessment — you tell us the vehicle, the postcode and what your insurer has asked for. No obligation and no visit needed.
2. Fixed quote — a firm price, not an estimate. Prices published on this site are "from" figures; yours is confirmed after we have checked the registration.
3. Mobile fitting — at your address, typically two to three hours for a tracker and longer for a package. We bring our own lighting and power.
4. Handover — the app set up and demonstrated, driver tags paired, and insurance certification issued on the day.

Combining work on one visit

If you want more than one thing done, do them together. A tracker and a CarPlay retrofit on the same appointment means the trim comes out once instead of twice, and it costs less than two visits. The same is true of two or three cars at one address, which is how most of our Surrey work is booked.

Warranty and reversibility

Everything we fit is installed to manufacturer standard, taking factory feeds using manufacturer connector standards. Nothing is cut or spliced, the work is fully reversible, and your vehicle warranty and service plan are unaffected.
