Porsche PCCM Plus › PCCM Plus for 997.2 & 987.2

This is the PCCM Plus version for the Gen 2 cars — the 997.2 911, the 987.2 Boxster and the 987.2 Cayman, the Cayman R included. These cars left the factory with PCM 3.0 or 3.1 rather than the CDR-24 or PCM 2.1 of the Gen 1 cars, so they take their own version of the unit with its own harness. ACR Automobile supplies and fits it for £2,699.99 including VAT at your home or office across London and Surrey.

Cars this version covers

  • 911 (997.2) — 2009 to 2012: Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4, Targa, Turbo, GT3
  • Boxster (987.2) — 2009 to 2012: Boxster, Boxster S and Boxster Spyder
  • Cayman (987.2) — 2009 to 2012: Cayman, Cayman S and Cayman R

The Gen 1 cars take a different version at £2,299.99, as do the 996 and 986. The later 991.1 and 981 are £3,099.99, because they also need a control unit and fibre optic cable.

Make sure it is a Gen 2 car — check this first

The 997 and 987 names cover two different cars, and the split is 2009. Ordering the wrong one of the two versions is the most common mistake on these models, which is why it is near the top of this page rather than buried in an FAQ.

The centre console settles it. A Gen 2 car has PCM 3.0 or 3.1 — a wide colour touchscreen. A Gen 1 car has a CDR-24 or PCM 2.1, with a small screen and separate buttons beside it. If your car is a Gen 1, you want the 997.1 and 987.1 page instead.

Send us a photograph of your console with your enquiry and we will confirm which applies before anything is ordered. It costs you nothing and it is the difference between a job that works and a wasted afternoon.

What your car came with

PCM 3.0 at launch, PCM 3.1 on later cars, usually with a CD or DVD drive, a hard-disc option on navigation cars, and Bluetooth that was respectable in 2009 and is not now. It was a genuinely good system for its day — the screen is a decent size and the interface is clearer than the Gen 1 units — but it predates CarPlay entirely, the navigation depends on map data that stopped being updated, and streaming from a modern phone is a compromise at best.

That matters more on these cars than on the older ones, because a 997.2 or a 987.2 is still a car people drive properly rather than keep for weekends. The source is the part that has aged; everything around it has not.

What changes

  • Apple CarPlay — maps, music, podcasts and messages through the car’s own speakers and controls.
  • Navigation with 3D maps on board, working with no phone connected and no signal.
  • DAB+ digital radio as well as FM and AM.
  • Bluetooth hands-free and streaming for any phone, Android included.
  • USB and AUX inputs with charging for the connected phone.
  • Reversing camera input — useful on a 997 with the wing raised, and on a Cayman’s rear three-quarter blind spot.

It is a Porsche Classic part rather than an aftermarket screen with a badge on it. The fascia is built for the aperture and styled for the interior, so with the screen off the console still reads as standard — which is the whole reason to spend this rather than a tenth of it on a generic double-DIN.

What differs across the three Gen 2 cars

The unit and the aperture are the same; what varies is what was optioned around them. A Bose or Burmester amplifier is common on better-specified 997.2s and is retained — we connect it and test it before leaving. A factory telephone module or a boot-mounted changer may become redundant, and we will tell you which of your existing kit still earns its place rather than quietly leaving it disconnected.

On a Boxster the practical gain is largest roof-down, where DAB+ and a clean source matter more than they do with the roof up. On a Cayman, and particularly a Cayman R, the fixed roof and the harder cabin make a better source more obviously audible.

Fitting and price

£2,699.99 including VAT, supplied and fitted — the genuine Porsche Classic unit, the model-specific harness, the installation and the setup. A fixed figure, not a from-price that grows once we arrive.

It goes into the existing aperture on the car’s own wiring. Nothing is cut, no trim is damaged, and your original PCM comes back to you in a box, so the car can be returned to standard whenever you like — by us or by anyone else. We pair your phone, tune DAB, and check the steering-wheel controls and any factory amplifier before we leave.

The work is done at your address anywhere in London or Surrey. Tell us when booking what amplifier your car has and confirm it is a 2009-on Gen 2 car, so we bring the right harness rather than discovering it on the day.

Frequently asked

Which cars does this version fit?
The Gen 2 cars: the 997.2 911 (2009–2012), the 987.2 Boxster (2009–2012) and the 987.2 Cayman (2009–2012), including Carrera S, Boxster S, Cayman S and the Cayman R.
How do I tell a 997.2 from a 997.1?
Look at the centre console. A Gen 2 car has PCM 3.0 or 3.1 — a wide colour touchscreen. A Gen 1 car has a CDR-24 or PCM 2.1, with a small screen and separate buttons. Send us a photo and we will confirm before anything is ordered.
How much, fitted?
£2,699.99 including VAT, supplied and fitted — the genuine Porsche Classic unit, the model-specific harness, installation and setup. Mobile across London and Surrey, at your home or office.
Why is it more than the Gen 1 version?
It is a different version of the unit with its own harness for the later console. The Gen 1 cars — 996, 986, 997.1 and 987.1 — are £2,299.99, and the later 991.1 and 981 are £3,099.99 because they also need the 9X1 control unit and fibre optic cable.
Does it keep my Bose or PCM functions?
Where a factory amplifier is fitted we retain it and test it with the new unit before leaving. Tell us what your car has when booking so we bring the right harness.
Is the installation reversible?
Yes. Existing aperture, existing wiring, nothing cut, and your original PCM is returned to you boxed.
