Porsche PCCM Plus › PCCM Plus for 997.1 & 987.1

This is the PCCM Plus version for the Gen 1 997-generation cars — and only those. The 997.1 911, the 987.1 Boxster and the 987.1 Cayman share a console and a harness, so Porsche Classic builds one unit for the three of them. Gen 2 cars are not compatible, which is covered below before anything else, because it is the difference between a job that works and a wasted afternoon. ACR Automobile supplies and fits it for £1,799.99 at your home or office across London and Surrey.

Cars this version covers

  • 911 (997.1) — 2005 to 2008: Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4, Targa, Turbo, GT3
  • Boxster (987.1) — 2005 to 2008: Boxster and Boxster S
  • Cayman (987.1) — 2006 to 2008: Cayman and Cayman S

The earlier 996 and 986 take the other PCCM Plus version. Gen 2 cars from 2009 — 997.2, 987.2 Boxster and Cayman, and the Cayman R — are not covered by PCCM Plus at all.

Gen 2 cars are not compatible — read this first

PCCM Plus is a Gen 1 unit only. From 2009 the Gen 2 cars — 997.2, 987.2 Boxster and Cayman, and the Cayman R — were delivered with PCM 3.0 or 3.1, a touchscreen head unit in its own fascia. Porsche Classic does not make a PCCM Plus for them: it is a different aperture and a different system, and no adapter changes that.

That is not a dead end. On a Gen 2 car the right route is usually a CarPlay retrofit into the PCM you already have, which keeps your factory screen and controls and costs less than replacing the head unit. Tell us the year and we will point you at the correct one of the two rather than selling you the wrong one.

Not sure which side of 2009 your car falls on? Send a photo of the centre console: a CDR-24 or PCM 2.1, with a small screen and separate buttons, is Gen 1. A wide colour touchscreen is Gen 2.

What your car came with

The CDR-24 CD radio on most cars, or PCM 2.1 on those optioned with navigation — a small screen, a boot-mounted disc drive, and Bluetooth that at best handles one paired phone. Sound quality was decent for the period, particularly on cars with the Bose option, but the source is the weak link: no CarPlay, no streaming worth the name, and maps that need a disc.

What changes

  • Apple CarPlay — maps, music, podcasts and messages through the car’s own speakers and controls.
  • Navigation with 3D maps on board, working with no phone and no signal.
  • DAB+ as well as FM and AM.
  • Bluetooth hands-free and streaming for any phone.
  • USB and AUX with phone charging.
  • Reversing camera input — worth having on a 997 with the wing raised, or a Cayman’s rear three-quarter blind spot.

What differs between the three Gen 1 cars

The unit and the aperture are the same; what varies is what was optioned around them. A Bose amplifier is common on 997.1 and Cayman S cars and is retained — we connect it and test it before leaving. A factory phone module or a CD changer in the boot may become redundant, and we will tell you which of your existing kit still earns its place. On a Boxster, the practical gain is largest roof-down, where DAB+ and speakers matter more than the head unit alone; on a Cayman, the fixed roof means a better source is more obviously audible.

Fitting and price

£1,799.99 supplied and fitted — the genuine Porsche Classic unit, the model-specific harness, installation and setup. Fixed, not a from-price. Into the existing aperture on the car’s own wiring, nothing cut, no trim damaged, original unit returned to you boxed. One visit, typically a couple of hours, at your address.

Tell us when booking whether your car has the Bose option and confirm it is a Gen 1 car, and we will bring the right harness rather than discovering it on the day.

Frequently asked

Which cars does this version fit?
Gen 1 only: the 997.1 911 (2005–2008), the 987.1 Boxster (2005–2008) and the 987.1 Cayman (2006–2008), including Carrera S, Boxster S and Cayman S. The earlier 996 and 986 take the other PCCM Plus version.
Does it fit a 2009-on Gen 2 car?
No. PCCM Plus is a Gen 1 unit only. Gen 2 cars — 997.2, 987.2 Boxster and Cayman, and the Cayman R — came with PCM 3.0 or 3.1 in a different fascia, and Porsche Classic does not make a PCCM Plus for them. A CarPlay retrofit into the existing PCM is the route for those, and usually costs less.
Does it keep my Bose amplifier?
Yes. Where a Bose system is fitted we retain it and test it with the new unit before leaving. Mention it when booking so we bring the right harness.
How much, fitted?
£1,799.99 supplied and fitted — unit, harness, installation and setup. Mobile across London and Surrey, at your home or office.
Is the installation reversible?
Yes. Existing aperture, existing wiring, nothing cut, and your original CDR-24 or PCM 2.1 is returned to you boxed.
